The Willows Student Apartments, a 60-unit, 360-bed student housing project, is part of the multi building Hemming Mixed-Use development in Rexburg, Idaho. The Hemming family, pioneers and lifelong advocates for Rexburg, created the development as a way to respect their family’s heritage while helping to build the future of Rexburg. The building consists of four stories of housing and amenities equaling 110,000 square feet over a multi-level parking garage for 220 stalls of parking. The project serves as off-campus women’s housing for Brigham Young University – Idaho and sits immediately adjacent to the campus on the north. The vision for the building was to reflect in the architecture both an appreciation for the past while looking to the future with a more modern, clean design that appeals to today’s students. The entry looks to the campus stadium and draws students in through its open, courtyard concept and links directly to the heritage park and retail buildings. Special care was taken on the interior to provide an aesthetic that was welcoming and safe, yet unique to other apartments nearby with a high quality in finish and furnishings. Each floor offers formal lobbies to the east and gathering lounges to the west. Large windows in both common areas and units provide access to the panoramic views across campus and of the mountains in the distance, while bringing abundant natural light into the interior. Additionally, the building offers an exercise and dance room, theater, fireplaces, game room, piano rooms, laundry and a multi-space courtyard for a variety of functions. The construction costs including the parking garage was $10.5 million dollars. Completion was September of 2012.
