CEU Fine Arts + Education Complex Plan & Concept Design

The Utah State University College of Eastern Utah brings a truly unique commitment to the Arts. USU CEU is dedicated to providing students and area residents with opportunities for study in the arts as well as cultural enrichment. Plays, concerts, and exhibits by students, faculty, and guests are viewed as important venues that serve to enhance the artistic life of the college and community. Key goals included:

The need to provide quality arts experience in safe, functional facilities
The need to consolidate programs in fine and performing arts
Providing a truly multi-purpose facility to students and community
A tool to aid in attracting students, faculty and events to the campus
A building that enhances the overall campus environment reflecting upon it’s rich history while providing inspiration and promoting a true “sense of place”.

The building will be located west of the Reeves Building in the existing green space, just east of the existing Geary Theatre. The overall campus environment will be strengthened and not only provide a stronger public “entry” to the south but create a great sense of community for students. Sculpture gardens will be introduced along with informal and formal outdoor gathering spaces. The park space to the southwest will be enhanced with monument signage helping to build a “gateway” entry into the campus. A formal drop-off is envisioned at the west entry of the building along 400 North with plantings, banners and signage to further reinforce it’s presence and providing a more artistic image to the community. The new Arts & Education Facility will include Art Gallery, Teaching Studios/ Classrooms, Music Score/Script Library, 700 Seats in a combined Performance Hall (with balcony), a 150 seat Black Box, Scene Shop, Green Room/Theatre Classroom, Practice Rooms, and Faculty Offices.
