Method Studio worked with Housing Connect and First Step Utah to accomplish several complementary goals: we won Salt Lake City administrative approval for our TSA Zone proposal, which encourages compact, pedestrian-friendly, mixed-use urban development; we developed specialized new residential accessible unit types to increase the residential capacity of the small site from an anticipated 50 units to 67, thus finding innovative ways to support Housing Connect’s affordable supportive housing mission; and we shepherded the LIHTC application through approval in a year when many more applications than expected were submitted. To do so, we worked with the owners to fully program the building and presented it in sufficient detail to receive as many TSA qualifying points as possible. The high level of detail in the applications assured the City, LIHTC, and the owners that our proposal is feasible and compliant, and that it exceeds original program expectations.
