mid valley performing arts center
The Mid-Valley Performing Arts Center is the newest addition to the Salt Lake County Arts & Culture family of performing arts venues. Located in Taylorsville, the Mid-Valley Performing Arts Center brings premiere performance and rehearsal spaces to the middle and southwest sections of the valley. This thoughtfully designed venue includes a 400-seat proscenium theater, a 250-seat studio theater, and a fully functional rehearsal space as well as professional theater staff and services. Mid-Valley provides the opportunity for performing organizations to showcase their art in this fast-growing area of Salt Lake County.
Method Studio aimed to create an expressive and unique architecture reflecting movement and the arts through its distinctly prominent forms, penetrating daylight, displayed movement of building occupants, and connection to green space. The building massing directly reflects the programmatic functionality of the spaces within. The three dominant program elements: the proscenium theater, studio theater, and rehearsal room are clad with exterior brick, GFRC, and metal panel facades. A rigorous acoustic and mechanical system design process was focused on reducing ambient interior noise to ultra-low levels, enhancing the sense of immersive experience offered by each performance. Great care was taken to minimize sound transmission escaping either theater, with walls scrupulously sealed and furring material added to them.
This facility was designed for state-of-the-art functionality — while including striking aesthetics that promote a sense of community and inspire the artists and audiences who use the venue.
